John Minnion’s distinctive black-and-white
line illustrations have appeared regularly in the British press
over two and a half decades. He was political caricaturist for the
New Statesman throughout the Reagan/Thatcher years, at the same
time drawing hundreds of composers in The Listener and for Naxos
CDs. For some years he drew weekly portraits in The Guardian, and
monthly illustrations in the BBC’s Worldwide and On Air magazines.
Throughout the 1990s he drew mainly for The Times, illustrating
weekly columns by the likes of Ned Sherrin, Lynne Truss, Nigella
Lawson, Anthony Howard and Richard Morrison.
Since moving to Liverpool
in 2001, he has concentrated on publishing books of his pictures.
These include Glued to the Gogglebox, scenes from 50 years of British
television, with text by Lynne Truss, whose TV column he illustrated
in The Times.
His latest book, Hitler’s
List is an illustrated guide to those geniuses whom the Nazis branded
‘degenerate’. These and other books will be on sale
at this exhibition, along with prints and originals. John Minnion
gives illustrated talks on the subject of Hitler’s List, and
if you visit Krakow, you can see a semi-permanent exhibition based
on this book, at the Galicia Jewish Museum.
