This is a wonderful opportunity to see new work from Doug and Val
Robinson. Although they paint together, their work has a very different
focus. Doug Robinson has been painting full time since he retired
from his architectural practice. His early work was inspired by
prehistoric features found in the landscape. This concern with
the organic changed completely as his work began to completely
revolve around the investigation of purely geometric forms using
a very restricted palette. In his recent work he has returned to
painting landscapes, albeit landscapes from his imagination. Val
Robinson has painted professionally since graduating in Fine Arts
at The Liverpool School of Art. When her family was young she concentrated
on commissioned portraits, today however, her work has taken a
slightly different course and she paints figurative compositions
which combine the human form with birds, animals and landscape
revealing a belief that we are all part of the ‘chemistry’ of
life. She always works in oils, and the paintings feature earth
colours, especially terra cotta, burnt umber and cerulean blue.
Also, she shows a distinct preference towards painting the female
form.
